I thought of another suggestion that I offered to Brett today for the new website. I’ve realized, after hundreds of job and internship uploads, that the internships often have application deadlines, starting dates and ending dates. This makes the currently used pop up calendar useful. I move an arrow to a certain date and it automatically pulls it up. It only allows me to leave it blank or select a date. Many of the jobs are listed as opened until filled and by adding a button or drop down menu I would be able to add this information. I've enjoyed doing something different and feel I could do more to help the company. I bring the desire to work hard for the company and the ability to learn quickly. Sometimes with little or no guidance I'm was able to accomplish my work correctly. I also have always been open to constructive criticism and consider it a way to learn from my mistakes. Being able to make timelines, meet, and exceed goals put forth towards me was a great way for me to display my desire to help the company and myself to excel.
Yesterday was Friday and I was ready for the weekend to begin. After waking up today (Saturday) I felt rejuvenated and decided to do some more work. Doing a virtual internship has its advantages and disadvantages. The downsides for me, doing the internship online, are that I am not able to network with others. The small size of the company and the work that I have been doing has not abled me to introduce myself to others. I also think that I am missing valuable hands on experience. A few advantages are that I’m able to work on my schedule. I also am not locked into a cubicle and enjoy sitting on my patio in Florida doing my work.
I am halfway through my internship now and I feel as if I could be getting more from my work and providing more for the business. I’ve been doing the same tasks since I started the internship and would enjoy learning something challenging and new. Brett told me earlier this week that he will have more for me to work on this week so I’ll wait. The computer uploads I’m working on are important but it’s just one part of the website business and I want to gain a broader understanding of it. First Jobs in Sports is working on putting out the new website and having current information is crucial. There is only one chance to make a first impression. Today seemed as if it was very long. I was hoping Brett would give me some new tasks today but maybe tomorrow. I feel as if I am on a treadmill and am working but not going anywhere. I had trouble locating some contact emails today and it took up a lot of time. I need to improve by letting go of some data because I can't locate an accurate email address for the person doing the hiring. It would be less frustrating, more productive, and save time if I could just cut my losses on some jobs. It's not possible for me to add all the employment opportunities over the duration of my internship show I will try to stop spending too much time on just one position. I did find a website this afternoon called Data.com Connect that locates emails from people all over the world. This will be an extremely useful tool and will allow me to perform my current employment tasks faster. I was hoping to have done more for the company at this point with my internship. I would like to do some sales for the company because I think I do well interacting with people. I don't have control over what duties I receive, as an intern, I only have control over the quality of work I do.
Today I uploaded more jobs and internships to the new website. My boss, Brett Cooper, was in contact with me this morning. He said to continue to do what I have been doing but by the week’s end he’ll have new work opportunities for me to tackle. This is great news because the uploading is getting a little monotonous. I learned something about myself today and that is I need to have change and new tasks to accomplish new goals and keep motivated. I don’t enjoy doing what seems like the same thing over and over again but I have gotten faster and make less mistakes. When I was in the Marine Corps we trained often doing the same thing again and again. This at the time was extremely boring but necessary for when chaos errupted. The training provided us the reactions, that almost became like second nature, we needed in order to survive. I have to look at the what I'm doing now and hope it will get me through the world of businesses hard times. The toughest part of my day today was trying to find email addresses for Human Resource directors that I attach to each upload. I have improved the time it takes me to locate the data I need by using various people locating websites.
Today is Friday and I took off a couple hours early to enjoy the nice beach weather in Florida before the cold front hits. I have been working, searching, and starring at a computer for almost 40 hours this week. I have uploaded hundreds of internships and jobs for First Jobs in Sports. I enjoy finding all the different employment offers and I know it's important for the company's website to be current but it's getting boring. I know I'm just an intern and don't expect to be running the business. I think it is better than just getting coffee for my boss.
Brett Cooper has been very busy this week and I believe Monday I will start with something new. I know he talked to me about putting together the company’s social media pages. I have enjoyed being able to browse all the sports jobs available and I keep searching for my perfect job. I don’t think I can work behind a computer every day. My father was a computer engineer and this experience has made me think of him often. The most interesting thing I learned this week was that there is a position for an Assistant Athletic Director at a college pretty close to where I live. I wouldn't mind moving for a great job, great money, or both but if I can I would like to reside right where I'm at if possible. Today was more of the same. I find that I have to get up during the day and go for a walk to help me keep focused. I'm finding it difficult to do the same thing daily while sitting at a computer. I uploaded about 50 internships and jobs to the new website. I talked to Brett Cooper today and he said he was having trouble keeping up with all my postings. That made me feel as if I'm doing a good job, which he says I am. He told me that the most important thing to make sure I have on the new employment sheets are the email and name of the person who is doing the hiring. I have left some email addresses off the sheets because when I try to post everything the website tells me I'm not entering a valid email. It also clears almost have of the other information that I've add. Brett said that anytime I was having that problem just email him the information and he would see if it excepted the infromation from his user name. He also mentioned in a couple days I he will have something different for me to work on but he did not say what it was. I will enjoy the new challenge whatever it is. Things are going well.
The last couple days of my internships I've uploaded several pages of new interships and jobs. I'm getting faster at uploading them so I feel more productive and probably appear that way to Brett Cooper. I know there is a lot more uploading of internships and jobs to do to make the website the most comprehensive for members. I don't think my duties of uploading data to the website is fun but I understand the importance of the task. Everyday I look for new employment in sports and I'm amazed of all the opportunities out there. I think that is the most interesting part of my job and it has opened my eyes to so many different options. I didn't receive an email or phone today from Brett, but he told me before that he is usually very busy on Mondays. I sent him an email today and mentioned that I would contact him tomorrow morning. I just wanted to see if he has had time to review most of my work and if I'm doing it correctly.
Today I was worried to start the day. I have had a lot of trouble with getting the information I need to uploaded on to their website, but with some guidance I think I have this mastered. Brett told me try and find a company staff directory and find the Human Resource Manager. One of the most important things I need to add employment opportunities to the website is an email address of the person in charge of the hiring. This is usually someone in Human Resources, but it can also be General Managers, Owners, and Presidents. I’ve added dozens of new internships and jobs onto FirstJobsinSports.com. Most of my additions came directly from the ESPN career website. They offer internships all over the United States and even some internationally. It is very interesting all the opportunities out there in the sports world. I never think I really thought about just how many different careers there are in the sports world. I also gave more suggestions about the new website and things I thought would be helpful. I mentioned that they might want to provide more drop down menus, just point and click on a response, on the employer site to make it easier to add new jobs. The website is getting closer to being finished but still needs several eyes to look at it to get the best product to the market.
Today I’ve been doing a lot of the same thing as yesterday. I’m still going through the internet and looking for sports internships. All I'm capable of doing right now is locating the information that is required and bookmarking it. Once I find them I would normally start transferring the information to First Jobs in Sports new website, but I’ve had some new problems today that have occurred. I have tried repeatedly to log onto the employee site of their website and I wasn't allowed to in the morning. I had to wait until this afternoon and I still wasn't able to sign in. I’ve tried contacting my boss and am currently waiting for his replay. Once I can get logged in I will again to start loading sports internships and jobs. I would prefer to work in a traditional job setting because I'm more of a people person, but it is nice not to have to travel to work everyday.
Brett contacted me and suggested that I try another email and password for my employer pass. I enter in new information and was lead directly to the place on the website I needed to be. I spent the rest of the day relocating the data I had bookmarked and uploading it onto the website. Along with all the data I upload I also supply a logo of the team or company offering the position. This had been working great except today because I have been using a poor labeling system and it made it impossible for me to find where I had stored them. |
