Today I’ve been going through the internet and looking for sports internships. I've been searching through college athletic programs, professional sports organizations, ESPN, YMCA, and many others. Finding the internships is just the start then I have to transfer the information to First Jobs in Sports new website. The information that takes the longest time to find and seems to be the biggest challenge is to try locating the email addresses of the people that do the hiring for the company. This is important because our website uses their emails as a porthole to respond to employment offers. Just clicking on their email or webaddress should take a job seeker right to the page they need to be. I’m getting better at doing this but I still have been struggling at times. I'm feel good about helping the company add the most current information possible to their website but it does seem to be repeitive.
Today was my first day working as an intern for Firstjobinsports.com. I talked with Brett Cooper for a long time over the phone to get the feel for what they are trying to do and what direction they want to take their new website. After that I was given instruction on how to register with the company as a guest and an employer. When that was complete I went to their new website to see if I thought some changes needed to be made. I looked over several competitors website like workinsports.com, teamworkonline.com, ect. to get a feel for what they where doing and what functions I felt were beneficial and helpful. Brett mentioned that they wanted their look to be similar to their closest competition, which seems to be the same design for all. After going over firstjobinsport.com in both the job seekers and employers website I came up with a few suggestions for Brett. I suggested they add a location button to make finding jobs and internships in a jobseekers area easier. I noticed that the website was lacking substance on the cover page. This could've been because the site was not completed and it had not just been added yet. None the less, I mentioned that many of their competitors sites have added to the right side of their pages customers testimonials and pictures so the pages don’t look so empty. On the employer website I didn't have much to go from. I couldn't get onto the competitors sites as an employer without paying for the service and I didn't do that. I only had the company's old website as an example. After working with it serveral times to upload jobs I realized a few areas that could be useful for the new site. To add a job onto the old website an employer had to go through 2 pages. It wasn't necessary and all the information needed could just be applied to one page. I also recommended that they use more drop boxes to add information about new jobs and internships. This will make it so an employer will be able to add job opportunities by mostly just pointing and clicking. |
